Biography
My name is Mohamed Mahmoud El-Shazly. I am the Head of Pharmaceutical Biology Department, Faculty of Pharmacy and Bioethanol, the German University in Cairo, Cairo, Egypt. I was graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain-Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, with a general grade excellent with honor in 2000. Following graduation, I pursued my postgraduate studies as a teaching and research assistant at the Department of Pharmacognosy at the same institute. After obtaining my postgraduate diploma, I traveled to Germany (Jacobs University Bremen, Bremen, Germany) to pursue my master and PhD studies. In 2006, I received my master’s degree in nanomolecular science, and I was offered a position at the same institute to complete my PhD focusing on the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates and natural products. In 2009, I received my PhD and went back to Egypt to join my home institute as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain-Shams University. In 2011, I received an offer to work at the Graduate Institute of Natural Products, Kaohsiung Medical University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. I spent there 2.5 years working as a postdoctoral fellow conducting research in different fields including natural products isolation, structural elucidation, and determination of their biological activity. This postdoctoral experience has assisted me to polish my knowledge and experience through guiding master and PhD students in their research. In 2015, I was promoted to associate professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain-Shams University. In 2017, I joined the Faculty of Pharmacy and Bioethanol, the German University in Cairo.Additional aspects of my background:Four years of teaching experience as a teaching assistant, Five years of teaching experience as an assistant professor, Four years of teaching experience as an associate professor, Mentor for several undergraduate, master and PhD students Organized scientific and social events on the undergraduate as well as on the faculty members levels.
